Commitment to Funding

Our Commitment

At Sustainable Schools, we believe that every school has the power to make a significant impact on global sustainability. By committing just 0.7% of their revenue to sustainable development projects, schools can foster a culture of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic viability within their communities.

Why 0.7%?

The 0.7% commitment is inspired by the United Nations' target for developed countries to allocate this percentage of their Gross National Income to aid developing nations. By adopting this benchmark, schools can contribute to a collective effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ensuring a better future for all.

The Process

  • Commit: Schools pledge to allocate 0.7% of their annual operational budget to fund sustainable development projects.
  • Formalize the commitment:  Schools incorporate this commitment into their annual budget and create a designated line item in their chart of accounts.
  • Plan: Develop a strategic plan detailing how the funding application process will work, what will be funded,  the allocation of funds process and outcome report mechanisms.
  • Implement: Execute planned projects. Engage students, staff, and the community in meaningful and impactful ways.
  • Report: Submit an annual progress report to track achievements, share best practices, and ensure transparency and accountability.
